Dolomites - practical hints, opinions and other remarks...

Guide books only in polish	When we were looking for some guidebook about Dolomites in polish we have found only two books. One by Tkaczyk and the other one by Kielkowski. Our description of these books is in polish only.
Tabacco	Very good maps. A net of 42 maps in scale 1:25000 covers almost whole Dolomites (except Brenta).
Kompass	We have bought one map (1:25000) from the Kompass covering the Brenta group. Unfortunately we were disappointed with it - with comparison to Tabacco they are not so good readable. For the Brenta we recommend Dolomiti di Brenta made by Lagir Alpina. It is much more precise.
Lagir Alpina	We have only one map by this company: Dolomiti di Brenta - it is very good - just like Tabacco.
Filar	Second-hand mountains bookshop FILAR has broad offer and fast service. In a week from an order we had books at home.

A trip in July has some pros and cons. An advantage of this time is that there are not so many tourists and climbers. The reason for that is that most of Italian people have holiday in August. Disadvantages are that high located areas may still be under snow.
Road signs in Italy are rather original. Often, instead of names of villages/cities, there are only geographical names on signs.
Siesta - quite characteristic in mediterranean countries, but for us rather upsetting.
Language. You are lucky if you know Italian or German :-). English is also used - especially on campings.
